Hi friends :) we are a week into December already! The Christmas tunes are blasting out in the Brennan house (although not at this exact moment in time, as Zeddy is napping!), and we’re starting to get a little bit festive! Here’s our latest creation:

I’ve been wanting to make an advent calendar for a few years now, since having Zeddy, but never got around to it. But this year, my little toddler boy understands a lot more, and so I gathered up some basic supplies and sent JB up a ladder with his hammer to hang our creation.
Zeddy was absolutely delighted when he saw it hanging up when he came down after his nap (I use the term nap loosely. That day’s nap was more about an un-nap, but nevermind!), he jumped up and down and said lots of nice things about our efforts.

And this was a joint effort – JB and I sat up late on the previous Saturday night cutting out the numbers and glueing them onto the bags, ready to be hung. Yes, that’s right – JB spent his Saturday night crafting, so that his little boy would have something nice for advent! What a guy!

So I bought some little vellum/glassene bags, from this seller at a very reasonable price (they also have super-cute stationery and gift wrap), some small peg Christmas card clips, and some white cotton yarn to hang the bags from. All we did for the numbers we just cut for bright Christmas wrapping paper, and glued them on with a bit of Pritt Stick. The cutting of the numbers took a little time, but it was totally worth it!

We filled the bags up with a festive chocolate or two, and some stickers and foam shapes.

Then once the bags were filled, I whipped out the washi tape collection, and stuck down the back of each bag….
Ready to be opened….

And the non-edible bits were inspected, while the edible contents were devoured….

The stickers and foam shapes are being stuck onto a large sheet of colour construction paper, to build a sweet little Christmas collage, handmade by Zeddy himself, which will be a lasting keepsake of this Christmas.
Please feel free to link to any of your own handmade festive holiday craft projects, I’d love to get a bit more crafting done this month, and I’d love to see what you’ve come up with!

Hi Claire, this is so lovely. Such a great idea to put in some stickers and bits aswell as the chocolates and then make a Christmas picture. I must try and be more organised and make a callendar next year!
You have such a lovely blog here – I’m glad I found the link on your email and thank you so much for including me in your blog list. Caroline x
Hi Caroline, I tried to reply to your lovely comment a few days ago, sorry that it didn’t appear on here for some reason… thank you for such nice comments, we were just so happy that he was so excited about it – well worth the effort :) you get up to loads of crafty things with your kids – I always wonder how you make the time :) xo Claire
I love seeing everyone’s handmade advent calendars. I am sure Zeddy will remember this for year’s to come :-)
We haven’t had advents this year as we are off on hols next week!
Hope you are keeping well x
HI Claire, thank you – I do hope he remembers it! You’re going away next week? Ace! Where to? xo
Vancouver! We are staying with family for xmas :-)
Thats fab, you lucky thing I would looove to go to Canada. And for christmas too – you’re gonna have such an amazing time!
Funnily enough I know someone of the same surname as you who is also going to Canada for Xmas – she’s called Karen.. A relation by any chance?
Not a relation so just a happy coincidence! I hope she has a wonderful time. I am starting to get a bit panicky about everything that I need to get done before we go….
I love the idea of sticky collage. I also love the concentration on Zeddy’s little face – perfect.
